Former Union Minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal is learnt to have resigned from the primary membership of the JD(S) on Thursday.

Yatnal, who held the post of general secretary in the JD(S), faxed his resignation letter to party national president H D Deve Gowda, sources said.

Yatnal is understood to have been hurt after being denied the post of JD(S) state president, which he was keen to occupy. Yatnal, had quit the BJP to join the JD(S) after falling out with former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

He is now likely to come back to the BJP fold. Preliminary discussions in this regard have already taken place in New Delhi, it is learnt.  Recently, Yatnal had openly welcomed BJP’s move to anoint Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate.

Yatnal, a former MP from Bijapur, was Minister of State for Railways in the NDA government headed by A B Vajpayee.
