Weapons outshine harmony at SP's meet
A meeting called by the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) to promote goodwill and harmony among various communities in the wake of the recent Muzaffarnagar clashes became a platform for supporters of its leaders to flaunt their weapons, ruining the occasion.
Many important leaders of the SP, including ministers, were present at the “Sadbhavana” meeting. While the leaders, in their speech, appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony and live peacefully, their supporters, who were also present in large numbers, openly flaunted their rifles, pistols and guns. The meeting took place at Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal town, about 400 km from Lucknow, on Wednesday, which also happened to be the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
