BJP MP's sister commits suicide
Sister of BJP MP Nandkumar Sai allegedly committed suicide in her house in Jashpur district of northern Chhattisgarh, police said today.
Kaushilya Bai Paikra doused herself with kerosene and set afire last night at Tapkara village, over 350km from here, local Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Marai told PTI over phone.
The 45-year-old was with her family members. When they were resting after taking dinner, she went inside a room and immolated herself, he said.
On hearing screams, her in-laws and other relatives called an ambulance and took her to a local hospital. She was later referred to a hospital in Ambikapur town where she succumbed to burn injuries this morning, Marai added.
Kaushailya Bai is survived by two children.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot, he said, adding the reason for the extreme step could not yet be ascertained.
A case has been registered in this connection, the SHO said.
Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt condoled the death of Kaushilya Bai.
Nandkumar Sai is a Rajya Sabha member.
