The Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Visitor Centre has been one of  New York City’s most prized horticultural gems since it opened last year, and now it has added LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification to its list of accolades.

Unveiled as part of the Garden’s centennial celebrations, the 20,000 sq foot building blends landscape design and architecture that meets some of the US Green Building Council’s most rigorous sustainability requirements.

Designed by New York-based design firm Weiss Manfredi, the Botanic Garden’s Visitor Centre was envisioned as a seamless gateway between city and garden. Hailed as a model of energy-efficient design it includes sustainable features such as an earth-sheltered construction and a geoexchange system for heating and cooling among other things.
