Celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava with festive spirit, suggests DC

'Programmes highlighting Kannada culture a must'

Deputy Commissioner A M Kunjappa directed the officials to make elaborate arrangements to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava, in the district.

Presiding over a preliminary meeting held in this regard at his office on Thursday, he said the district administration has decided to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava in a grand manner on November 1, and directed the officials to begin preparations for the same immediately.

Steps should be taken to follow discipline during flag hoisting, in the morning. Importance should be given to conduct march past, programmes highlighting Karnataka’s culture and land by school and college students, he said.

Respective school head masters and college principals should take the responsibility of involving their students for the same, while priority should be given for government schools and colleges, he stressed.

He also directed the authorities concerned to observe the day with festive spirit, by decorating the city with buntings, special illumination at circles, streets and government offices. 

Meanwhile, pro Kannada organisation urged to make it mandatory for the banks and post offices to hoist Kannada flag on the day. 

The members of the organisation complained that they were neglected during the Dasara festivities and Jalapathotsava and other government programmes conducted by the district administration. However, the DC assured that they would be taken into confidence in future and conduct programmes with their cooperation.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr K H Narasimhamurthy, additional DC Venkatanayak, Kannada and Culture assistant director K Manjappa, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Somashekara Bisalwadi were present.
