Are you in the mood for some North Indian delights and want to indulge in a ‘tadka’ from Banaras?
Catering to those cravings is ‘Banarasi Tadka’ in Kasturi Nagar which serves delectable authentic North Indian food.

The city boasts of serving varied cuisines and Ganesh Kumar wanted to concentrate on North Indian food, which was traditional to the core.

“In most places serving North Indian fare, the food doesn’t have a homely flavour or feel to it. And this is where we aim to be different with our food. The dishes we serve are exactly how we prepare them in our households back in Banaras,” he says.

Be it ‘Makki ki roti’, ‘Sarson ka saag’ or ‘Litti chokha’, these traditional delicacies are prepared with utmost care and a personal touch. “We have tried to keep it simple, hygienic and very close to the original taste,” he says.

The eatery’s highlights include ‘aloo’ preparations like ‘Aloo bhindi’ and ‘Aloo gobi’ and also ‘Sarson ka saag’. “These items are not available at a lot of restaurants in North India as well since they are a part of our regular diet. We are also proud of our ‘Aloo bhujia’, which draws a lot of people,” he says.

The eatery is called ‘Banarasi Tadka’ to explain the concept that it serves clearly. “We wanted to communicate to the customers about the kind of food we offer. Hence, the name fit in really well,” adds Ganesh.

The place has a humble seating capacity for around 20 people. “We have proved to be a quick eating joint for many, while several families also stop by for a proper meal,” he says. The eatery, which opened around one-and-a-half years back, attracts an impressive crowd including people across different cultures.

Indulge in an ‘Aloo paratha’ or ‘rotis’ and wash them down with a ‘thandai’. “We also have ‘Rooh Afza’, ‘lassi’ and ‘Banaras ka sharbat’ which speak of our rich tradition,” says Ganesh. For those with a sweet tooth, there is ‘kheer’, ‘gajar ka halwa’, ‘gulab jamun’ and ‘hot jalebis’ to relish.

The eatery is open from 11.30 am to 10.30 pm. ‘Banarasi Tadka’ is located at 2nd Main, Kasturi Nagar, Banaswadi.
