Security heightened, anti-sabotage teams deployed

Police conduct preventive checks at malls, hotels, bus stands, railway stations

As around three lakh people are expected to attend the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally scheduled to be held at Palace Grounds here on Sunday, the police have heightened the security at the venue. 

After reviewing the security arrangements at Palace Grounds on Friday, Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said: “The security arrangements for the rally is being carried out from the past 10 days. We are not only working for the safety of the VIPs but also of the public."

The entire venue is being checked thoroughly and sanitised. Anti-sabotage teams, which have come from 18 districts across the state, have been deployed at the venue. Ten ambulances and two fire engines will be placed at the Palace Grounds. Around 1,400 volunteers from BJP will help the security personnel in managing the crowd. All malls, lodges, bus stands, railway stations and public places in the City are also being constantly checked by the police, Auradkar said. 

 The police personnel who are on duty will also be provided with an identity card, anyone without the identity card will not be allowed inside the ground. The entry to venue would be from Krishna Vihar, Tripura Vasini, Circus gate and Bellary road. People would be frisked in two levels at each entry point.

‘No man’s land’

“There are barricades set up with the help of BJP workers. The space near the dais is called as 'No Man's Land' as no one is allowed to enter that particular space. There are several CCTV cameras set up to monitor the entire venue," said the commissioner.

Modi will be covered by National Security Guards and close protection team from Gujarat.Modi is slated to visit Sri Sri Ravishankar's ashram on Kanakapura road and Poornaprajna Vidyapeeta at Vidyapeeta Circle before arriving at the Palace Grounds.Police have held meetings with BJP leaders and briefed them about the security arrangements, besides seeking their support the smooth conduct of the rally, he said. Traffic arrangements

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B Dayananda said no vehicle will be allowed inside the ground Arrangements for parking are made at various places. All the vehicles coming towards the venue will have to use the ring road. Heavy transport vehicles entering the City will also be diverted without allowing them near the venue. The public entry would to the venue will begin from 9 am and the traffic restrictions would be place from 6 am to 10 pm on Sunday. There would not be any disturbance to the routine life.

Arrangements are made for the free flow of ambulances, people travelling to airport, bus stands, railway stations and hospitals, he added.

He advised people to avoid Ramana Maharshi road, J C Nagar Main road, Nandidurga road, Palace road, Palace cross road, Sheshadripuram main road, Kumara Krupa Road, Chowdaiah road, Bellary road, Sir CV Raman road and Kodava Samaja road on SundayAuradkar said the police have banned sale of liquor in areas coming under the jurisdiction of the Yeshwanthpur and JC Nagar police station limits from 6 am till midnight on Sunday.
