Untimely rain is a harbinger of many skin troubles. The presence of high levels of humidity aids the growth of microbes like fungus and bacteria, making the skin exceptionally susceptible to infections like pimples, acne and blemishes.
One of the oldest systems of alternative medicine, Unani lists some easy ways to maintain acne-free skin.
n Neem is recommended for the rejuvenating effect it has on the skin. It is also a blood purifier. Applying a mixture of neem powder and water on pimples helps the skin to breathe and glow.
nA face pack of multani mitti helps to lighten tanned skin and removes excessive oil.
nAnother face pack that could be used this season is white chandan or powdered sandalwood mixed with water. This acts as an anti bacterial agent, which keeps the skin clear and cool. Make a paste of neem, tulsi, rose petals, chandan (in equal quantity) with raw milk. The paste should be applied for at least an hour before it is washed off with water.
n To get pollution and dirt off your skin, scrub your face with a paste made out of powdered dry orange peel, chandan (sandalwood), curd, cucumber and water. Apply this paste on face till it is dry and then scrub it off with water. In the case of dry skin, massage the skin with two drops of almond or olive oil to maintain the moisture after scrubbing off the paste.
* A paste of powdered orange peel (10gm), turmeric powder (5gm), chandan powder (5gm), dried neem leaves (5gms), maida (5gms), almond oil (5ml) and sesame oil (5ml) can be applied for acne-free skin. Leave the paste for an hour and wash it with water. For better results apply the paste and leave it overnight.
* Drink lots of water throughout the day, not only to replenish moisture loss due to the heat and sweat, but also to help flush toxins out of the body.
