Kanakashree award for Prof Kulkarni

The State government has chosen Prof Krishna Kolhar Kulkarni for the annual Kanakashree award for 2013.

Prof Kulkarni, a historian and research scholar based in Bijapur, has done extensive research on Dasa Sahitya. He has popularised literature through gamaka. He has authored no less than 50 books, including 14 on Dasa Sahitya.

At present, the 74-year-old author heads the Adil Shahi Literature Translation Project, under which seven volumes will be brought out next January.

The Kanakashree award carries a cash prize of Rs five lakh and a statue of saint poet Kanakadasa. The award will be presented on the occasion of Kanakadasa Jayanti on November 20, at Ravindra Kalakshetra. A committee headed by K T Chikkanna, writer, made the selection for the award.
