State to have wide area network
Mangalore, Nov 20, DH News Service

A high-tech system called Karnataka State Wide Area Network will be in place in the nation for the first time. The system established at a cost of Rs 180 crore will be inaugurated during the last week of November by CM B S Yeddyurappa.

With this, 2,990 officials of 19 departments in the taluks, districts and at the State-level will be able to take up video, voice and data communication.

“The system is a very efficient one. With this a Deputy Commissioner can hold video conferencing with the Tahshildar of any taluk and with the officials at the State-level too,” said Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Secretary Vidyashankar, addressing a news conference on Friday.

He said a number of officials will be given IP phones enabling them to discuss developmental issues. It’s an intra communication phone on which communications will not be charged.
