Karnataka boys make it to semifinals
Shimoga, Nov 20, DHNS:

Karnataka boys moved into the semifinals of the 35th Sub-junior National volleyball championship here at the Nehru stadium on Friday.

The State outfit notched up a comfortable 25-9, 25-22, 25-14 win against Rajasthan in their quarterfinal encounter which lasted 55 minutes. They will meet TN in the semifinals.

The State boys never confronted any trouble as they marched into the last four stage of the national meet.

After clinching the first set 25-9, Karnataka lads relaxed a bit to help their rivals to score some points in the second set. Howevrer, they quickly recovered to seal the second 25-22. They then took the third set 25-14. However, the State girls went down to Kerala 25-20, 26-16, 18-25, 25-17 in the quarters.

Defending champions Tamil Nadu barged into twin semifinals. The boys ousted Punjab 25-15, 25-16, 25-13 and the girls posted a convincing 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 win against Andhra Pradesh.

Results (quarterfinals): Boys: Tamil Nadu bt Punjab 25-15, 25-16, 25-13; Karnataka bt Rajasthan 25-9, 25-22, 25-14; Uttar Pradesh bt Manipur 25-15, 25-12, 25-7; Haryana bt West Bengal 15-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-17.

Girls: Kerala bt Karnataka 25-20, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17; Tamil Nadu bt Andhra Pradesh 25-16, 25-23, 25-21; West Bengal bt Haryana 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 Uttar Pradesh bt Rajasthan 25-20, 25-21, 25-17.
