Farmers’ meet today
Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) will organise a district-level farmers’ convention on November 22 at Amanthran Hall Thokkottu, as a part of State-level convention to be held from December 24 to 26 in Bangalore.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday Sangha District General Secretary K Yadhav Shetty said that the programme will be inaugurated by Sangha State General Secretary G C Bayya Reddy while farmer leader K R Sriyan and Raitha Sangha State Secretary Shantharam Nayak will be present.
He informed that the convention will force the government to take steps to provide food security, control price fluctuation and provide scientific support price for areca and coconut crops. He said that effective implementation of NREGS will also be demanded at the convention. “The scheme must provide 200 man days of guaranteed job instead of 100 and the wage must be increased to Rs 150 per day,” he said.
