The State government will complete the process of making appointments to various cultural academies within the next 15 days, Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Umashree agreed that there were a number of aspirants vying to become chairperson or member of the academies. “It is natural that there will be many aspirants for these positions. We are discussing and will complete the appointment process within the next 15 days,” she said.

The Congress government had asked chairpersons and members of cultural academies to demit office soon after coming to power. Six months down the line, it is yet to fill up the posts.

Umashree said a committee, headed by litterateur Baraguru Ramachandrappa to draft the cultural policy, will be submitting its recommendations soon. The government will decide whether to implement the provisions of the proposed policy based on public opinion, she said.

Umashree, who also holds the women and child development portfolio, said 40 new anganwadi centres would be opened in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits to attend to malnourished children in the State capital.
