It is one of the top tourist destinations of our country and its beauty is often spoken and written about with great verve. Known as the Switzerland of India, Kashmir boasts of many mesmerising locations and attracts huge crowds during snowfall.

Other than its beauty, Kashmir is also famous for dryfruits, woollen items and various handicrafts. Promoting these, the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited (CCICL) recently organised ‘Nafasat-E- Kashmir’ featuring various products, clothing and handicrafts from Kashmir.

The emporium is known to showcase the finest crafts from all over India under one roof ranging from sarees, ready-to-wear clothing, furnitures, home accessories, exquisite sculptures, paintings, artefacts, metalware , woodcraft, pottery, stoneware and marble craft, carpets, jewellery, herbal products and much more. Each product is unique, and reflects the traditional myths, folklores, religious beliefs, cultural ethos and rich heritage of India.

In an endeavour to celebrate and promote Indian handicrafts, CCIC organised this special exhibition-cum-sale of Kashmir handicrafts titled ‘Nafasat-E- Kashmir’ showcasing high-quality hand-embroidered shawls like kani, jamawar, sozni, arri work, papier-mâché items, stoles in pure pashmina and wool, ready-to-wear clothes made from silk and cotton, hand-knitted carpets, hand-painted papier-mâché products, hand-crafted walnut wood handicrafts and various other traditional items from Kashmir.

CCIC has also set up a ‘Cottage Craft Gallery’ showroom for display of high-end handcrafted furniture and artefacts, cabinets, boxes, painted wooden screens, wooden doors, inlaid marble table tops, traditional Indian paintings especially made by National Awardees.

In the exhibition, masterweavers, other artists and national awardees displayed their entire range of handicrafts for sale. Since the exhibition showcased the best of Kashmiri craft and weaves, painstakingly executed by skilled masterweavers and national awardees, it was a delight for all.
CCICL retails authentic Indian handlooms and handicrafts and the products are being sourced from weavers, masterweavers, artisans, master craftsmen, National Awardees and Shilp Gurus. This is a laudable attempt to ensure the longevity of many dying arts and ensure the artisans get their due for their craft and hard work.
