Memorial to be built for Tipu
Union minister M Veerappa Moily on Monday said a memorial would be built at the birthplace of Tipu Sultan at Devanahalli in Bangalore Rural district at a cost of Rs 6.50 crore. It will be constructed utilising funds provided by oil companies.
Speaking after laying foundation stone for renovation of Yelahanka railway station, along with Railway Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge, he said after the construction of Kempegowda International Airport, the region is witnessing huge influx of tourists and it is necessary to promote some of these places, such as Tipu’s birthplace, as tourist destination.
Tipu’s birthplace at Devanahalli is in a bad shape, he said. A farmer who owns land next to it has agreed to part with his land for construction of the memorial. “We have already released Rs 6.5 crore and the local authorities have been directed to purchase the land required. The person who has offered the land should be given an alternative land,” he said.
Avathi near Devanahalli, the birth place of Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore, will also be developed, and an auditorium will be constructed at a cost of Rs one crore.
