Novel system for ATM safety

Last Updated 21 January 2014, 20:36 IST

A Mumbai-based company has claimed that it has a better solution for safety at ATM kiosks that has been adopted world over.

Securens Systems Private Limited, claims to have foiled 15 robbery attempts at various ATMs across the country,  with its centrally monitored surveillance system.

The system consists of a series of sensors that turns a siren on if anyone attempts to tamper with the cash dispenser. The system also has a two-way audio channel, which can be used to communicate with the offender in the act of committing a crime.

Simultaneously, the surveillance centre at Mumbai will also be able to access the video, Sunil R Udupa, Managing Director of Securens, told mediapersons on Tuesday.

The banks which own the ATMs are given a choice to either alert the nearest police station themselves or let the firm do it. As many as 1,800 centres across the country have the system in place. “So far, six banks have opted for this surveillance in 400 kiosks in Bangalore,” said Srinivas Popuri, CEO of the company.
