SC for ban on multiple draw of lottery
The Supreme Court on Friday, in an interim order, issued direction to state governments to adhere to the Central law that prohibits more than one draw of any lottery in the country.
A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said: “The government must stop bumper lottery, which is holding draw more than once in a week.’’ According to Section 4 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, a Central law application in the country, no lottery organiser can arrange more than one draw in a week.
Bibhash Karmakar, a resident of South 24-Parganas, West Bengal, in his petition has sought judicial direction to ban online lottery in the country as it directly affects the poor as well as students.
