Lightning strikes claiming two lives in the region

Three other persons injured in Mysore district as rains continue

Rains continued to lash across the region, claiming two lives in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts. In the first incident, Prema (38), was killed in a lightning strike at Devalapura village, in H D Kote taluk of Mysore district.

She, along with six other persons was working in the field, when the lightning struck. 
While Prema died on the spot, Shankaraiah, Chaya and Kempasiddamma suffered injuries in the incident. Among the three, Chaya is said to be critical and has been transferred to K R Hospital in Mysore.

In another incident at Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district, parts of which received 56.5 mm of rainfall, Chandramma (29), who working on a field, was stuck by lightning, killing her on the spot.

While rainfall was isolated or scattered in Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts, it was fairly widespread in several regions of Mandya district. Parts of Chamarajanagar taluk received 22 mm of scattered rainfall, while rainfall was comparatively sparse in Kollegal and Yelandur taluks of the district.

Mandya district received the maximum rainfall in the region, with parts of Maddur taluk receiving 63 mm of rainfall. Fairly widespread rainfall was reported in K R Pet taluk, which received 51.5 mm of rainfall, Mandya taluk with 54.5 mm of rainfall, Pandavapura taluk, which received 49.2 mm of rainfall and Nagamangala taluk with 25.5 mmSrirangapatna taluk received 28.7 mm of isolated rainfall. 

Parts of Mysore district too received good rainfall during the day. Parts of Hunsur taluk received 56 mm of rainfall, while H D Kote received 38.5 mm of fairly widespread rainfall during the day. Isolated instances of rainfall was reported in Mysore taluk (10.5 mm) and Periyapatna taluk (15.5 mm).

In Hassan, isolated to scattered instances of rainfall was reported. Arsikere taluk however, recorded fairly widespread rainfall of 16.5 mm. Apart from it, 21 mm of isolated rainfall was recorded in Channarayapatna taluk and 16.5 mm rainfall in Hassan taluk.
