Kannada portal to be launched today

The portal serves as an encyclopedia of information on various issues in Kannada.

Karnataka Knowledge Commission has developed the portal in association with the Kannada Development Authority (KDA). Karnataka government had allocated Rs 2 crore, as initial amount for the portal in the budget 2009-10.

In a joint press conference in Bangalore on Thursday, Knowledge Commission member secretary Prof M K Sridhar and KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said at the outset the portal would host information on literature, history, culture, art, science, social science, agriculture, technology in brief. It will be developed gradually encouraging active participation of viewers. International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore is offering technical support for the portal.

Akin to Wikipedia, viewers can add information on issues of their interest on the portal. However, the information posted by the viewers would be hosted on the portal after a panel of experts clear it. Chief Minister Yeddyurappa will launch the portal and also announce the uniform resource locator (URL) of the portal.

Chandru said the Chief Minister would also announce the panel of experts, who will be responsible for the upgradation of the portal  and also incharge of scrutiny of the information posted by the viewers.
