Rescheduled CAT not before Dec 7

Bangalore, Dec 3, DHNS:

Test might be extended at least by a day to accommodate all candidates

The organisers of the Online CAT 2009 have admitted that the rescheduling of the test for candidates who were unable to give the test, may not happen within the original deadline of December 7.

Further, they have indicated that the test might very well be extended by at least a day to accommodate all the candidates who have to be rescheduled.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the all India convenor of CAT 2009, Satish Deodhar of the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad), said that the extension was a good possibility.

“There is a good possibility that the test will be extended by at least a day to December 8. We are in talks with Prometric to extend the last date and a decision will be taken tomorrow,” Deodhar said. He added that if the test was indeed extended by a day, it would cover for about 25,000 candidates and that convenience of the candidates was a high priority.

Extension not ruled out

Prometric too has put a list of FAQs on the official CAT website about the reschedule indicating that an extension cannot be ruled out.

“We will try and accommodate all candidates within this year's testing period. If there is a need to extend beyond 7 December, IIMs will announce this as soon as a decision has been made,” the statement read. They have also indicated that ‘reasonable’ requests from candidates over rescheduling and changing test locations will be considered if they call on the Candidate Care number at 1800 103 9293.

Meanwhile, affected candidates from the opening day, finally received communication from Prometric about the reschedule. Amit, an engineering student who was unable to give the test initially at the Vivekananda Degree College and then again after the failure at Garden City College, said that his test has been rescheduled for December 5. “I called the helpline and initially they told me that my test will be rescheduled for December 7. But I requested them for the morning session on December 5 and they called back to confirm the reschedule,” he said.

Another candidate Arun, too said that he received communication from the organisers and they would confirm his date by Friday evening. “I have asked for December 6 and they called to say that they will confirm the reschedule on Friday,” he said.
