Last Updated 21 March 2014, 19:00 IST

The BJP continues to display large heartedness welcoming politicians from different parties willing to ride favourable public mood ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

If the Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj joined the party on Friday morning, a close aide of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar NK Singh, is set to join them after quitting JDU on Friday as he was miffed over not getting second Rajya Sabha term.

Joining BJP in presence of president Rajnath Singh at Ashoka Road party headquarters, spiritual leader Maharaj, who has been with Congress for ages and has considerable following in the hilly state, accused Congress of ignoring the plight of cloud burst victims and said that said that country needs strong leadership like Narendra Modi. “People are suffering and nothing has been done for them. Hills are in danger as people are relocating to plains for making a living," he said.

Mahraj’s wife is a minister in the state government and his walking out of Congress is second such attempt since 1990s. Last time he had brief stint with Congress (Tiwari) before returning pack to parent party.

NK Singh, who is also fondly known as Nandu Babu in Bihar politics, may join BJP as early as on Saturday, said party sources.

Singh, in his resignation letter to Nitish Kumar, has given reasons for why he was quitting JDU including the fact that development of the state has taken a backseat since the CM  snapped ties with BJP.
