'Kanaja' launched
Kannada portal 'Kanaja' was launched in Bangalore on Saturday. It has been developed by Karnataka Knowledge Commission on the lines of wikipedia. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa launched the portal formally at a function held in Vidhana Soudha.
The portal, which offers viewers’ participation in keep updating the information, serves as a source of information on various issues in Kannada. The State government had released Rs 2 crore for the project. The portal can accommodate up to 1.3 lakh articles.
The portal has separate sections for art, literature, science, environment, media, history, technology and business. Writer Go Ru Channabasappa suggested the title ‘Kanaja’, meaning a treasure, for the portal.
“This serves as a treasure for world wide information in Kannada”, said Kannada Development Authority Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru.
Knowledge Commission Chairman Dr K Kasturirangan said the portal would be updated constantly with the participation of viewers. The information posted by the viewers would be hosted on the portal after an expert committee verifies the information.
