Rizwan Arshad vows to decongest Bangalore

Last Updated 09 April 2014, 21:32 IST

Congress candidate for Bangalore Central parliamentary constituency, Rizwan Arshad, on Wednesday said his priority would be to decongest Bangalore roads, especially in the central business district (CBD).

Interacting with mediapersons, he said the central business district comes under Bangalore Central constituency and had been bearing the brunt of increasing traffic. There is a need for proper infrastructure, especially wide roads and parking lots, in order to decongest the roads, he added.

Rainwater harvesting

Besides, the constituency is also witnessing drinking water shortage. Drilling borewells will not solve the problem of the residents. An effective water management system has to be put in place to address the system.

People should be encouraged and educated about adopting rainwater harvesting system as a first step towards solving the problem, the Congress candidate said.

Immense respect

Asked about senior leader C K Jaffer Sharief’s decision to resign from the Congress party, for being denied a ticket, Rizwan said he had immense respect for the former railway minister.

“He is a senior leader and I have also received his blessings for my political career. Jaffer Sharief is not campaigning because of health reasons,” the Congress candidate claimed.
