Saying it with eggs

Exciting combinations
Last Updated 11 April 2014, 15:33 IST

Occupying a prime of place on the busy stretch of New BEL Road, ‘Cafe Eggstacy!’ started off as a kiosk selling a number of egg-based items. But over a few months, it has grown into a full-fledged mini food court with a raasta-style ambience.

Today, ‘Cafe Eggstacy!’ is not just one egg-shaped cart selling delicious items, it also boasts of other kiosks like Nawab’s, a roll place; ‘Salad Days’, which sells pasta and salads and ‘Momo Mia!’, which offers a variety of momos. Always buzzing with people, the eatery has a dhaba style yet urbanised ambience, similar to that of a food court.

‘Cafe Eggstacy!’ was started by Amar Singh, who was into real estate, and Sonia, a culinary expert, around one-and-a-half years ago. “We wanted to delve into the unorganised segment of roadside food. Our main aim was to sell raasta food in a hygienic way,” recalls Amar, the operations head.

He opened the first kiosk of ‘Cafe Eggstacy!’ realising the number of egg-lovers in the City. “There are a lot of people who love egg-based dishes. But there aren’t many places that serve a variety of these especially in a roadside ambience,” he adds.

Today, the kiosk sells 40 varieties of egg-based dishes. Be it egg-stuffed parathas, egg chilli, egg fried rice, sausage or chicken kheema omelettes, egg-lovers are spoilt for choice here.

And one doesn’t have to be deceived by the name of the place as it sells more than just egg specialities. Rajma chawal and crispy chilli potato are two of the fastest selling items here. Even the aloo, chicken kheema and paneer parathas have many takers.

Momo-lovers will be in for a treat here as there are momos with unique fillings like
egg, egg cheese, mushroom, paneer and chocolate apart from the regular chicken and veg momos. “Our momos are steaming hot and have a thin and soft skin. We also plan to introduce seafood, mutton and soya momos in future,” says Amar.

Two innovative items available here are veg and chicken MMS (momos in manchurian sauce). As the name suggests, this consist of momos in the manchurian sauce on a bed of rice. Alternately, one can also opt for chicken and veg momo manchurian.

All those who love digging into rolls can go for the veg, chicken and shawarma rolls available at Nawab’s. “Our kaati rolls, kadai chicken roll and double egg chicken are extremely popular,” informs Amar. While ‘Salad Days’ offers a variety of pastas and salads. Amar now plans to open up more kiosks in the City
this month.

“The ‘Momo Mia!’ kiosk is already there in two other places — near MES College in Malleswaram and outside MS Ramaiah College,” he informs.

Youngsters love catching up with each other at this open space. Arjun Shounak,
a professional who lives in Mathikere, comes here often with his friends. “New BEL Road is a noisy stretch. So it’s nice to come to a peaceful place like this in the middle of a busy road,” he says.

“I love having the paneer momos along with a soft drink. It’s a great combination. Even the tea here is really nice,” he adds. With the prices of all the items ranging between Rs 35 and Rs 100, you can be rest assured that nothing here will pinch your pocket.

Cafe Eggstacy! is open on all days from 10.30 am to 11 pm. It is located on #16,
New BEL Road (opposite Nandhini Deluxe and next to Levi’s showroom). For details, call 7760984446 or email egggstacy1@gmail.com
