Last Updated 15 April 2014, 19:55 IST

Two workers at a pharmaceutical factory sustained burns after a major fire broke out on the premises in Peenya II Stage on Tuesday afternoon.

Abhishek and Manjunath were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. They are out of danger, the police said.

More than 105 workers, who were inside the Anglo-French Drug Industries when the incident occurred, managed to rush to safety.

The factory, owned by Abhay K—a native of Mumbai— employs close to 200 workers. A section of the workers was busy mixing chemicals at a laboratory when an explosion occurred and the fire spread rapidly.

Seven fire tenders battled the blaze for over two hours before they succeeded, said a regional fire officer. The factory management is yet to lodge a complaint, the police said.

Highway robbers held

The Dobbespet police have arrested three persons who were allegedly waylaying and robbing passengers on NH 4. The suspects have been identified as Bharath, Shivaraj and Nutan Kumar.
