My Mom's New Boyfriend

Last Updated 22 May 2009, 17:21 IST

Returning home after three years on a special mission, FBI agent Henry (Colin Kanks) finds his single-obese mother Marty (Meg Ryan) being transformed into a thin and beautiful lady desired by all men.

Not only has she become rich but one of her boyfriends, Tommy (Antonio Banderas) is the main suspect in a case he is pursuing. So, there lies the trouble and family drama starts to unfold. There are also many surprise twists in the script, one that involves Henry’s fiance’ Emily (Selma Blair) and Tommy (Banderas). Selma somehow looks comfortable with her role and in fact is the only character to look forward to.

It must have been hard work for the production team but ‘My Mom’s New Boyfriend’ with its poor script and mismatched acting could never have recovered after the first 15 minutes.
There are also unnecessary sexual overtones and revealing outfits clearly showing the incapability of the director to draw a clear line between a teen-comedy and adult entertainment. The attempts at mixing them only weakens the whole storyline.

The stuffs in ‘My Mom’s New Boyfriend’ are simply not good enough to tickle your funny bone. Nonetheless, it may be good for people who are comfortable with cocktail movies.
