Flattering swimsuits for different body types

Last Updated 17 April 2014, 14:20 IST

Spending vacation on a beach where you get time to relax, soak in the sun and play with splashing water is what we all yearn for.  The lucky ones even get a chance to live the moment! Well, if you, specifically women, are planning a special vacation this season to a popular sea resort, then a perfect swimsuit that flatters your body is a must.

Those who have shoulder and bust measurements larger than the hips should go for swimsuits that give a slim look to their shoulder. In that case two-piece suits work well.
Halter or scoop neck tops in dark, solid colours are best. Wide straps make shoulders appear smaller. Be experimental with bottoms.  Boy shorts are one option to create more curves at the hips. Light colours are also good for playing up the curves.

Those who have shoulder, bust and hips of the same size should opt for swimsuits that emphasise their waistline and give an elongated look to the torso. One-piece suits with details at the waistline help create a more shapely, hourglass figure. If daring enough then you can go for bikinis too. Light-coloured or detailed bottoms and tops add width to the bust and hips, giving a curvier line. V-neck string bikinis are also a good option.

In case you have heavy bottoms then go for mini-skirt bikinis, which are very cute. Avoid a super frilly one. Instead, pick a smooth, skimming skirt that is short but also covers what it needs to. A ruffled or highly decorated top goes well with it. You can try one piece too with wide straps or horizontal neckline. Avoid boy shorts, too skimpy bottoms, or lots of ruffles and details at the hips.

Selecting a perfect swimsuit for those with a  big tummy is a real task. If you are self-conscious about your tummy try one of those fabulous, tummy, control panel, swimsuits. A one-piece with some draping around the waist or hips can also help to conceal and, avoid solid-coloured one piece swimwear.

Even those with a large bust size face difficulties in selecting the right swimwear. A good choice can be halter-top bikinis. Look for one-piece swimsuits with some structure in the bust. Wide shoulder straps will also be much more comfortable than thin, spaghetti straps and avoid strapless bandeau tops and those tiny tops that offer minimal coverage.
