CISF, KSRP guard strong rooms

Last Updated 18 April 2014, 19:11 IST

The City police have taken the services of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) to ensure foolproof security at the three colleges where electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in Thursday’s Lok Sabha elections have been stored.

The police have provided three-tier security to strong rooms where the EVMs have been kept. The first tier, known as the inner-most layer, will be guarded by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The CISF will guard the locked rooms which contain the EVMs.

The second tier is the inner layer and this will be on the premises of the building, which will be guarded by the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and third tier security is the outer peripheral layer which will be guarded by the City police.

“The strongrooms will be accessible by the officials who are in-charge and no unauthorised person will be allowed near the premises. They will be strongly safeguarded till the day of counting,” said a senior police officer.

The EVMs of Bangalore South constituency have been safely kept inside Shivananda Sharma Memorial Rasthriya Vidyalaya College (SSRMV) in Tilak Nagar police limits, those of Bangalore Central constituency and Bangalore North in RC College under High Grounds police limits and Maharani Home Science College in Upparpet police limits respectively, said the police.

Representatives of BJP, Congress and JD(S) told Deccan Herald that they have absolute faith in the police and the election commission. The reports that the political parties have made their own security arrangements are false and baseless, they added.
