Brothers drown in lake

Two brothers met a watery grave when they went to swim in a lake in M Gopahalli under Bidadi police limits on Friday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Manoj, 6 and Yeshwanth, 8, both sons of Kumar, a labourer. According to police, the two went to play near the lake and ventured into the deep waters.

“Neither of them knew swimming and a passerby noticed the boys drowning in the lake. He informed the local residents and by the time the villagers reached the lake, the two had drowned. Police fished out the bodies with the help of local people,” said an officer attached to Bidadi police station. A case has been registered.

In another incident, a 22-year-old plumber drowned in a lake in Bettadahalasuru in Chikkajala police limits on Thursday. Police said that Azmath, a resident of Saraipalya, had ventured into the lake with his friends. He did not know swimming and soon started drowning. The efforts of his friends to rescue Azmath went in vain and they informed the Chikkajala police. The body was traced on Friday and sent to post mortem. 

BMTC staffer ends life

Rama­c­h­a­ndra, 58, a ticket collect­or attached to Shantinagar dep­ot of BMTC, committed sui­cide consuming poison at his res­idence in Bagalagunte near Peenya.

According to police, deep in debts, Ramachandra had slipped into depression with moneylenders behind him. He had not reported for duty for the ten days. 

He had consumed poison in a room on the terrace of his residence and the incident came to light when his wife Sashi came looking for him. He was found lying on the floor with a bottle of poison next to him. Sashi rushed him to a nearby hospital with neighbours’ help, where he died, police added. According to a death note purportedly left by Ramachandra, financial burden drove him to suicide. 

Guard arrested

Raju, 28, a native of Assam working as security guard at an under construction building in the City, was arrested for an alleged attempt to molest a seven-year- old girl near Kundlahalli.

On noticing two girls aged seven and eight from neighbouring houses playing with none around, he lured the seven-year-old, offering her chocolates and sent the other girl home, the police said. 

The other girl, however, noticed him taking the seven- year-old girl to the shed, where he resides, and informed her parents. Her parents, in turn, informed the girl’s parents. When questioned, the girl said the guard, after taking her into his room, tried removing her clothes.

When she began screaming, he panicked and fled the spot, she said.Following a complaint by the girl’s parents, the police arrested the guard. A case of attempt to rape has been registered and further investigation is on.
