Fake currency: Convict, undertrials shifted

The authorities of the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, have acted swiftly after counterfeit currency notes were recovered from a cell recently and shifted four undertrials and a convict to different jails.

On a tip-off, the authorities raided a cell at Barrack-8 and recovered Rs 15,500 worth of denomination (Rs 500 denomination) fake currency notes from undertrials — Girish, Mohan Kumar and Lakshmikanth — and Vijayendra, a convict.

The five possessed the currency notes as part of betting when the T20 World Cup cricket matches were being played. The authorities lodged a complaint with the Parappana Agrahara police in this regard, said the police.

The prisons authorities shifted Girish, Mohan Kumar and Lakshmikanth to Barrack-3 and Vijayendra to Mysore prisons. The police are ascertaining the source of the currency notes, said the police.


The prison authorities are conducting an independent internal inquiry to ascertain how currency notes were transported inside.

Vegetable trader robbed


Four miscreants allegedly threatened a vegetable trader and robbed him of Rs 85,000 early on Sunday morning in Hoskote police limits.

The incident occurred near Haralur Gate on Malur Road when the victim, Chinnappa, was returning to Malur from K R Puram after loading his goods vehicle with vegetables. The suspects, who came by a car, accosted Chinnappa, threatened him with lethal weapons, snatched the cash and fled, said the police.

The Hoskote police have registered a case and are investigating.
