Cong calls Modi a megalomaniac who will bring destruction

Narendra Modi is a 'megalomaniac' and will bring only devastation and grief like Tsunami, Congress today said tearing into his remarks that God has chosen him to rescue the country.

"Why should we wait for May 16. What can the 120 million voters do now. Why are we carrying out this voting exercise at all if God has already selected him," Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said mocking at the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Modi had on Wednesday sought support for his prime ministerial bid, saying he has been chosen by god to rescue the country from the mess created by UPA and he needed people's blessings for accomplishing the difficult task.

"He said yesterday that he was God's chosen one to lead the country. So now voters will not elect him. He has not been elected but selected to do X, Y or Z. He has been afflicted by some disease.... This megalomania is a matter concern.

"What is a matter of more concern is that he himself is saying this and considering himself a god and not some of his stooges who are saying this," Sharma said wondering whether the great republic of India will have as Prime Minister "somebody, who is always saying I, me, myself".

The Congress spokesperson also took potshots at Modi's key aide Amit Shah for telling that Modi wave has now turned into a Tsunami.

"Tsunami can only bring devastation and grief. What Amit Shah has said is something very ominous. We should be worried," Sharma said.

He also utilised the occasion to target Modi and BJP over the issue of crime against women alleging that the track record of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh ruled by the party is quite bad in this matter.

He said that while the maximum number of cases are registered in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat ranks 20th in the list states as far as conviction is concerned.
