9 poll staff killed in terror attack

At least eight polling and police personnel were killed and some others injured when suspected Maoists blew up the vehicle they were travelling in Dumka district, a senior police officer said.

In South Kashmir’s Pulwamadistrict also, at least one polling official was killed while five others including two CRPF personnel and a policeman were injured in a militants attack on Thursday evening.

A senior police officer Deccan Herald that the attack was carried on the officials carrying electronic voting machines from Nagbal Polling Station to district headquarters of Shopian in south Kashmir at 7.15 pm.

Jharkhand Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar said a landmine was triggered when they were returning from poll duty. The blast occurred near Asnajore in Shikaripara Assembly segment while the polling officials were returning, Inspector General of Police, Anurag Gupta said. Polling for the Dumka Lok Sabha seat was held on Thursday along with Raj Mahal, Godda and Dhanbad.
