Wickets tumble in Kanpur on dramatic day

Kanpur, PTI:

Wickets fell like ninepins, with 22 of them tumbling on a dramatic second day leaving Uttar Pradesh needing another 183 more runs to win with eight wickets in hand in their Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match against Bengal here on Wednesday.

In reply to Bengal’s first-innings total of 193 all out, UP were shot out for just 62 from 24.1 overs, paceman Ranadeb Bose (5/18) ripping apart the top and middle order.
Bengal were then themselves bundled out for 104 in their second essay, setting UP a target of 236 for an outright win.

At the draw of stumps, the hosts were 53 for two with Shivkant Shukla batting on 18 and captain Mohd Kaif giving him company on one.

Earlier, Bose was twice on course for a hat-trick. He first removed Shivkant Shukla (2) and Rohit Prakash Srivastava (0) in successive balls in the fifth over and then Parvinder Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0) in the 13th over to reduce the home team to 15 for five.

For Bengal, Sourav Sarkar (3/20) and Laxmi Ratan Shukla (2/23) also chipped in.
The Bengal batsmen, however, failed to capitalise on the fine show by their bowlers as the visitors were bundled out for 104 in 36.3 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5/27) ripped through the Bengal top order.
