Green signal for Yermarus project

KPCL invites tenders for 1600 MW thermal plant

The MoEF clearance for 1,600 MW YTRS project has given a big fillip to the capacity addition effort by the State.

The Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) has now invited tenders for various works.  “We got the clearance in the last week of October, we have already invited tenders and we will soon establish an office over there shortly,” said a highly placed source in the KPCL.

The State's third thermal power station and the second one in Raichur district will have two units each with a capacity of 800 MW and the work will be completed within four years from the date of commencement.

Yedlapur project

However, the KPCL has not yet got the MoEF permission for another project at Yedlapur due to delay in holding public hearing, but the officials hope to get the approval by January 2010. "We had called for a public hearing in this regard and since the matter is now clear, we have sent the proposal for the MoEF clearance and we will get its approval by next month," said a top official here.

RTPS' eighth unit

On the eighth unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS), the officials said the  Rs 925-crore 250-MW 8th unit is nearing completion.  He said, functioning of all the thermal power plants is satisfactory with the new Bellary Thermal Power Station also attaining its full 450-500 MW capacity.
