Junior basketball meet from today

The under-18 national basketball teams of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will fight for each other in the three-day qualifying event here from Saturday to determine the one SABA (South Asian Basketball Association) qualifier for the under-18 Asian Basketball Championships to be held in Doha.

The event will be held at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium.

Sri Lanka takes on Bangladesh in the first match, with the hosts playing back-to-back matches on Sunday and Monday.

Speaking about India’s chances, Jora Singh, the coach, sounded upbeat. “We definitely expect to win. I do not see much competition from the other two teams.”
Jor, who was working with the senior team earlier has backed Ambita Reddy, who plays for a junior club in Barcelona, to do well in the competition.

Some of the other players who may well catch the eye are Gurvinder Singh Gill (Centre) and Mahipal (Shooting guard)

The Indian squad: Narender, Akhilesh Kumar Tudu, Prudhvishwar Reddy Ambati, Mahipal Singh, Sagar Joshi, Dildar Singh Brar, Rajesh Padisetti, Sunil, Gaurav Ohlan, Gurvinder Singh Gill, Pradeep, Anmol Singh.

Head coach:Jora Singh; Assistant coach: Paramdeep Singh; Physio: Allen.
