Though rainfall in Bhagamandala and surrounding areas of Karike village on Wednesday have brought relief to farmers, the hydro power generation unit in Karike village has fallen short of water.

As a result, the generation of electricity has been affected.

The unit of Bharooka Power Corporation, with a generating capacity of 11 mega watt electricity, has been facing the problem of shortage of water this monsoon.

During last June – July, the region had received 670 mm rain and 1,039 MW electricity was generated. But this year, the region has received only 250 mm rain and  578 MW electricity has been generated which is 50 per cent less than that of corresponding period last year.

The electricity produced here is  supplied to Dakshina Kannada district. Karike village  is situated in the border of Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada has been facing the power crisis.

The people in Karike are dependent on the electricity supplied from Kerala and now, there is a load shedding of four to five hours a day.
