The fear of H1N1 looms large again, with the number of cases reported in the State going up in the last seven months. A total of 19 deaths were reported in 2014, seven of which were reported from Udupi.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U T Khader said BBMP had been directed to take necessary measures.

He said that across the State, 1,271 had undergone medical examination, of which 209 tested positive. “A total 19 deaths due to H1N1 have been reported,” he added.

Khader pointed out that in the City, 82 confirmed cases have come to light. However, he confirmed that there were no deaths. Recalling the situation last year, he said 19 deaths had occurred due to the flu.

“This year, till July 17, 19 deaths have come to light. This is a cause for concern. The department has put necessary measures in place. People with symptoms such as fever are advised to seek medical assistance at the earliest,” he added.

Typical symptoms of dengue include sever headache, pain in the eye, bleeding gums, joint pains and vomiting sensation.

Khader said that anyone having such symptoms must immediately visit the nearest hospital.
