Vibgyor High management skips meeting with parents

Last Updated 23 July 2014, 19:52 IST

A scheduled meeting between the parents of students studying at Vibgyor High school and the management on Wednesday over safety measures in the institution following the rape of a minor girl, was cancelled when no one from the management turned up.

Another meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 10 am.

This comes a day after the parents and management representatives met City Police Commissioner M N Reddi  who had suggested a meeting between the school management and parents.

The parents had met Kimmane Ratnakar, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education on Tuesday.

BEO made to wait

S M Ramesh, the block education officer (BEO) for South-4, under whose jurisdiction the school falls, had come for the meeting.

He however left the venue after waiting for two hours.  The meeting that was scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday was postponed to 2 pm when no one from the management was able to make it on time.

The meeting was finally postponed to Thursday, 10 am, after the parents were informed that no one from the management would be present for the day.

As many as 40 parents had come for the meeting.

Speaking with mediapersons a parent who did not want to be named said, “The principal, vice-principal and other co-ordinators of the school were present in the school when we came in. However, we made it clear that we would interact only with a person with proper authority and having a say in the decision making,” she said.

The parents had prepared a 37-point agenda, which they were looking forward to discussing with the management.

The agenda titled, “Prioritisation of Agenda for Meeting with Vibgyor Management Team,” consisted of points such as informing parents about any incidents/accidents/policy change at the school, background verification and psychometric analysis of all staff members of the school that would be audited by the PTA (Parents Teachers Association), regular access of CCTV footage to the parents’ body and its monitoring by an independent body etc.

A survey on what the parents considered the most important of these points was conducted online.
