A software professional was robbed by two unidentified men who pounced on her just as she was opening her house door located in a secluded locality under Rajanukunte police station limits on the outskirts of the City on Wednesday evening. Using her ATM car, the robbers also withdrew Rs 25,000 from a nearby kiosk.

Tejaswini Bhat, 38, told the police that just as she returned from work and was opening the door around 7.30 pm, the men pounced on her and forced themselves into the house.

Wielding a knife, they threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. But the gritty woman put up resistance and tried to bite the hand of one of the robbers but they quickly overpowered her.

‘Made her sit on chair’

The robbers then made the victim sit on a chair and gave her water to drink. By then, she had given up the idea of resistance and feared to be killed.

She removed all the gold jewellery on her person, chain, earrings and finger ring, and gave them to the robbers. The men then rummaged through the house but found only Rs 2,000 in cash, a police officer said.

Thereafter, they sifted through her purse and found an ATM card. They asked her to part with the PIN (Personal Identification Number) which she did promptly. One of the men then went to a nearby ATM centre and withdrew Rs 25,000.

Thereafter, they returned the ATM card and ran away, the officer added. The woman later called the police and made a complaint.

According to the officer, the area where the victim lives is secluded. The robbers apparently knew that they can easily strike there as there are not many houses around.

The police have gathered certain clues from the spot. They are examining the CCTV camera footage from the nearby ATMs.
