PU supplementary exam: Highest pass percentage in eight years

The results of the second year pre-university supplementary exams have seen the highest pass percentage this year since 2006. But it is still a meagre 30.78.

As many as 2,18,537 students appeared for the supplementary exams that were held from July 3 to 12. In 2006, the pass percentage was 36.84 in the supplementary exam, after which there was a gradual decline in the results. In 2013, the pass percentage was 23.55 percent.


Out of the 1,31,390 boys and 87,147 girls who appeared for the exam, 27.37 per cent boys and 35.93 per cent girls cleared the exam.

Further, 45,154 students appeared for the supplementary exam from rural areas, out of which 30.64 per cent cleared it.

On the other hand, 1,73,383 students wrote the exam from urban areas, out of which 30.82 per cent passed.

As far as the Arts stream is concerned, 1,02,386 students appeared for the exams (29.06 pass percentage), 54,788 students appeared for Commerce supplementary (30.94 pass percentage) and 61,363 candidates appeared for the Science stream (33.53 percent pass percentage).

In Kannada medium, out of the 1,15,787 students, 29.62 per cent passed the exam. In English medium, out of the 1,02,750 candidates who appeared for the exam, 32.01 per cent cleared it.

Raichur in last position

In the repeaters' exam, Udupi has seen the highest pass percentage (47.95), followed by Kodagu (44.45) and Dakshina Kannada (44.41).

All these districts have outperformed their previous year's performance in the supplementary exam. The least pass percentage, however, is in Raichur where only 15.98 per cent candidates who wrote the supplementary exams passed.

According to the Karnataka Examinations Authority, there is a provision for issuing photo copies, revaluation and retotalling of answer scripts.

The facility is available in Bangalore city through BangaloreOne centre and through KarnatakaOne centres in Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad, Mysore, Mangalore, Tumkur, Davangere, Bellary, Gulbarga and Shimoga on paying the requisite fees.

The applications, along with the original copy of fee challan, should be sent via speed post to ‘The deputy director (exam), Department of PU Education, Sampige Road, 18th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore’.

The last date for sending applications for photocopies is July 28. The fee for photocopy of one subject is Rs 504.

The fee for revaluation for one subject is Rs 1,260. The last date for applying for revaluation is August 3.


The revaluation results will be hosted on www.pue.kar. nic.in.

For retotalling, the fee is Rs 336 per subject and the last date for sending in applications is August 3.
