<p>The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Thursday issued notice to All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi on a petition challenging her election to Lok Sabha from Raebareli parliamentary constituency.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A division bench comprising Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Devendra Upadhyaya issued the notice on a petition filed by one Rajesh Singh, a resident of Raebareli.<br /><br />Singh, in his petition, has raised the issue of Gandhi’s citizenship and her meeting with the Maulana Ahmed Bukhari, the imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, to challenge her election.<br /> <br />Singh has contended that Gandhi was not a citizen of India and as such was not eligible to contest the elections.<br /><br />Singh’s lawyer Harishankar Jain said that Gandhi’s meeting with Bukhari to seek support of Muslims in the polls was a violation of the model code of conduct.<br /><br />The petition will come up for further hearing on September 9.</p>
