School should have informed cops: Girl's dad

The grief-stricken father of the six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a skating instructor at Vibgyor High school at Marathahalli on July 2, feels that the manner in which the school management tried to hush up the matter was more disturbing than the attack.

“The incident was shocking, but even more shocking was the school management trying to hush up the matter. I do not have any complaints about the teaching at the school.

But, I am not satisfied with the way the management handled the issue,” the victim’s father told Deccan Herald on Thursday.

He said, “The school should have taken up the matter and approached the police rather than trying to hush it up. It was a real shock for us when the incident came to light. As a parent, it has been tough to handle a situation like this.”

On the probe by the police, he said, “I am extremely satisfied with the way the City police have investigated the sensitive case. I feel the accused could have been arrested much earlier if the school management had acted swiftly”.

The girl’s father also said, “There are more people involved in the case and they should be arrested soon. However, I cannot comment on the arrests as the police are probing the case.”

The girl’s father, who hails from Odisha, said he has not thought about whether she will continue studying at Vibgyor. “Had the school acted in the right way, I would not have thought of changing the school.

Now since they have not acted fairly, I am thinking whether or not to send my daughter to the same school. On the whole, we need more time to take a decision on this,” he said. He was not following the arrest of founder-chairman of the school, Rustom Kerawalla, booked for allegedly hushing up the matter, the father said.
