<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a new initiative to invite ideas on good governance and ensure citizens’ participation in matters of importance. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Described as his pet project, MyGov involves a new portal — http://mygov.nic.in — giving citizens an opportunity to both ‘discuss’ and ‘do’.<br /><br />Explaining that in the past, there used to be a big gap between people and the processes of governance, Modi said the experience of his government was that there were many who wanted to contribute towards nation-building.<br /><br />The prime minister said he looked forward to receiving the suggestions, views and ideas of the people. “Democracy cannot succeed without people’s participation in government and this participation should not be limited to only during elections,” he said.<br /><br />The National Informatics Centre of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) will manage the platform.<br /><br />The platform has been divided into various groups, such as Clean Ganga, Girl Child Education, Clean India, Skilled India, Digital India, Job Creation. Each group consists of online and on-ground tasks that can be taken up by contributors.<br /><br /> The objective of each group is to bring about a qualitative change in that sphere through people’s participation.<br /><br />In addition, there are multiple theme-based discussions on MyGov where people from all walks of life can share their thoughts and ideas. <br /><br />Further, any idea shared by a contributor would also be discussed on these forums, allowing constructive feedback and interaction. For those who wish to go beyond discussions and contribute, MyGov offers several avenues to do so. Citizens can volunteer for various tasks and submit their entries. <br /><br />These tasks would be reviewed by other members and experts. <br /><br />The portal can even be extended to act like a public audit platform for government projects, such as citizens giving feedback on status of completed infrastructure projects or availability of various social sector programmes.DH News Service</p>
