Start work on Shiradi Ghat before Dec: MP

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed the officials from national highway to start the work on repair of 47-km stretch of Shiradi Ghat before December. The ugradation of the stretch is taken at a cost of  Rs 55.18 crore.

Speaking at a meeting on Shiradi Ghat road and the progress of tender for the work at the DC’s office here on Monday, he said that road will have to be closed for six months to facilitate the work. “Following the closure of the road, we have to ensure that no inconvenience is met at the passengers. As an alternative, we have to impress upon the Central government to start additional passenger train services between Mangalore-Bangalore, Mangalore-Hassan and Subrahmanya-Hassan and goods train services to transport goods from Mangalore to other parts of the State.

If the proposal seeking additional trains is submitted to me immediately, then I will get it sanctioned during the monsoon session of the Parliament itself,” he said. 

The MP said that potholes developed on the national highways that pass through Dakshina Kannada district, following heavy rainfall should be filled on a priority basis.

The work on fourlaning of National Highway from Surathkal to Kundapura has been stalled and has been causing inconvenience to the public. The work should be started at the earliest and completed in the next three months.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim directed NHAI Project Director Sriram Mishra to make changes in the proposal of a flyover to be constructed at Pumpwell Circle in Mangalore and start the work at the earliest.

NHAI Executive Engineer Nataraj, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Mangalore City Corporation Joint Commissioner Gokul Das  Nayak, Executive Engineer Rajashekar and others were present.
