On a mission
Last Updated 30 July 2014, 15:42 IST

Delicious and nutritious food brings satisfaction to both who eat it and those who lovingly prepare it.

While people are busy consuming unhealthy, calorie-laden junk food, two sought-after celebrity chefs, Rakesh Sethi and Vikas Khanna, are busy teaching amateurs on how to whip up lip-smacking but nutritious food, this monsoon.

While gourmet king Chef Rakesh Sethi has joined hands with Radisson Blu, Dwarka to teach cooking enthusiasts and foodies his culinary skills and specials from his signature recipes, the three-time Michelin star, Chef Vikas Khanna has taken the initiative ‘Cook for a Smile’ with Smile Foundation, to raise funds for the economically underprivileged children.

‘Master Class by Master Chef’ are the classes that Chef Rakesh Sethi holds for his wannabe cooks and teaches them the best three dishes from his cookbook which includes a dessert and a mocktail with one main course.
His weekly classes on Wednesdays, boasts of an impressive attendance of people from all walks of life, teenagers to young and middle-aged men, women and even the elderly. “My father wanted me to come for these classes and he is a firm believer that nothing good will happen, but after this I am all set to prove him wrong,” Natasha Singh, a student at his class tells Metrolife.

Cooking for a cause is what the Indian-American Chef Vikas Khanna is looking to do. The chef, who is now associated with Smile Foundation as its goodwill ambassador, aims to raise funds for the education of over 100 children through “Cook for a Smile,” which is a charity cooking contest.

Explaining his efforts, Khanna says, “Lack of proper nutrition is a fundamental issue and one of the biggest roadblocks for the growth and development of children in India. I am proud to be associated with Smile Foundation as their Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition, for better literacy and hope to sensitise many more people about this issue that faces us as a developing country. Cook for Smile has been a big step in helping us reach out to stakeholders.”

Sunday morning at Hyatt, New Delhi saw as many as 11 corporate leaders such as Amit Modi, director, Cleo county and Aseem Kapoor, area director, Hyatt Regency, northwest India among many others donning the Chef’s toques with Smile Foundation children on assistance and on the mission of ‘nutrition for literacy’.

Through this Chef Vikas divided the leaders into two groups who had to cook their dishes and compete against each other. The morning event, sponsored by Cleo County, saw Chef Vikas as the host while little children from the audience judged the signature delicacies of the amateur, business head cooks.
