Man chained for two years, kept with animals

Lust for property drove a man to treat his own brother like an animal. The younger brother was chained and kept with animals for two years.

The shocking incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district in drought-prone Bundelkhand region, about 250 kilometres from here. The police, on Tuesday arrested Mahesh Singh, the elder brother and rescued Minki Singh.

Reports said the two brothers had 12 acres of land at Pura village in the district. Mahesh had his eye on the entire property after the death of their parents a few years back.

Mahesh hatched a conspiracy to grab the property and for this he planned to show that his younger brother was insane.

“As per the plan, Mahesh chained Minki and put him with the animals at an outhouse. He used to give Minki the bare minimum food sufficient to keep him alive,” said a police official.

A piece of cloth was also stuffed in Minki’s mouth so that he could not shout for help.

Whenever they asked about him, Mahesh told villagers that Minki had gone to Delhi and was working there. However, Mahesh’s neighbours got suspicious after they saw him taking food to the outhouse on several occasions and they informed police.
A police team raided the outhouse and rescued Minki.

“Minki was in a pathetic condition. He was semi-conscious. He could barely walk. He was chained and it seemed as if he had been starving for quite some time,” the official said.

A little later he narrated his plight to police. Mahesh fled the village soon after the raid.
“We are trying to nab him and conducting raids at different places,” police said.
