Tension prevailed for sometime when the workers of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged flash protest in front of N R traffic police station condemning the police action in booking a case against an erring rider who rammed his two-wheeler to a police inspector on duty, on Thursday.

Inspector of V V Puram traffic police station Susheela was inspecting vehicles as part of the special drive against helmetless riders and violators of seat belt in cars, at Panchamukhi Ganapathi Circle on New Sayyaji Rao road, when a two-wheeler rider later identified as Mohammed Gadaf rammed into her.

The rider aged around 50 years, who was riding with a woman, suffered minor injuries along with the police officer. The police officer suffered a sprain in her shoulder.

Procedure

As is the procedure, the police officer handed over the rider to the jurisdictional N R Traffic Police Station on Ashoka road.

Learning about the incident, the SDPI workers in large numbers assembled in front of the station in no time alleging police highhandedness in the case.

They initially took objection to the police action for booking the rider for reckless riding.

Susheela told Deccan Herald that she was on duty at the aforementioned circle, when the incident occurred. She also claimed that the rider was not wearing helmet at that time.

Treatment

“However, the rider lost control over the vehicle 50 metres ahead of the spot,” she said. Susheela was later treated at Apollo BGS Hospitals as outpatient.

Police Commissioner M A Saleem said that a case was booked against the erring rider (at N R traffic station) before letting him off, as it is a bailable case.

As a precautionary measure, adequate policemen from neighbouring Mandi and Lashkar police stations were deputed at the station.
