Case filed against Shettar with BMTF

Last Updated 31 July 2014, 21:02 IST

The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) on Thursday registered a case against former chief minister Jagadish Shettar for allegedly granting land to the son of a freedom fighter by flouting rules.

However, hours after the registration of case against the BJP leader, the Congress government transferred Dr R P Sharma, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of BMTF, as ADGP (Railways) and gave the additional charge of BMTF to senior IPS officer T Suneel Kumar who is ADGP, Civil Rights Enforcement.

According to BMTF sources, based on a complaint by A Prasad, convenor of Vokkaliga Sangha, the case was registered against Shettar. He has been charged with granting land to Sundaresh, son of freedom fighter Suryanarayana Rao, flouting all norms. This was meant to benefit a builder.

The Sangha lodged the complaint two days after holding a press conference against Shettar. The Sangha had alleged that in 1967, the State government had decided to grant four acres of land to Suryanarayana Rao. But due to certain legal hurdles, it could not be given. This forced Rao to approach High Court. Before the verdict came, Rao passed away in 1989. After his demise, his son Sundaresh fought the legal battle and won it in 2010.

The High Court ordered the government to grant him agriculture land.

Prasad is learnt to have stated in his complaint that the land granted was non-agriculture. It was given at Srigandha Kaval, which is near the village where the land should have been given. Further, the land was given in the BBMP limits, although agriculture land should have been given at least 18 km away from BBMP limits.

On Thursday morning, the BMTF registered another case against a builder for encroaching upon a Gomala land and a stormwater drain adjacent to the Karnataka Golf Association.
