Small-time actor found murdered

A little-known film actor and writer was found murdered at her house in Jayanagar on Thursday.

The victim was identified as S R Prathima, 64. The murder, which took place on July 27 at her house, Ramana Nilaya, close to Yediyur, came to light only on Thursday.
The motive is yet to be ascertained, but the police suspect dispute related to financial matters may have led to the murder.

According to Jayanagar police, Prathima, estranged from her husband, was staying at Ramana Nilaya owned by her brother S R Sharma, for a decade. She has a son and a daughter – Naveen and Bhavani – both married and staying separately in Bangalore.

Prathima, who had acted in Amruthadhare, had presented many cultural shows at Ravindra Kalakshethra, besides penning Kannada short stories and novels, the police said.

On July 27, Bhavani called up Prathima who told her she was planning to visit Shirdi. When Bhavani called her mother again on Monday, her cell phone was not reachable and she assumed that her mother may have gone to Shirdi. But a day later, when she called her mother on the phone and got a ‘not reachable’ reply, she grew suspicious and visited Ramana Nilaya on Thursday and found it locked from outside.

Further, noticing foul smell emanating from the house, she contacted the police who arrived and broke open the door to find the highly decomposed body of Prathima.

“There were minor injury marks on the head. The assailants might have held her by the hair and hit her head against the wall. There is no clear information regarding the theft of valuables,” DCP (South) H S Revanna said.

There are no immediate evidences to establish that the murder was for gain. The assailants had an easy entry and locked the door from outside while fleeing. Hence, the police suspect the involvement of persons known to the victim.
