Mangalore, Dec 21, DH News Service

''I will extend my wholehearted co-operation to the police force, which preserves harmony in the society. I will never commit any kind of crime and I will abide by all laws of the land,'' students of St Aloysius College unanimously took an oath of allegiance at a Crime Prevention Month programme organised by the Mangalore North Police at the college campus on Monday.

The awareness rally organised as part of the Crime Prevention Month programme in Mangalore on Monday. dh photoDelivering the presidential address, Additional Superintendent of Police R Ramesh said that law is framed only for the well-being of society. “Students should be more vigilant now, where the number of high-tech crimes are increasing considerably,” he added.

Students should not send unwarranted and obscene picture messages. It is very easy for the police to track the origin of unwarranted and obscene messages. Those who send such mesages can be caught easily and will be punished with imprisonment from six months to one year, Ramesh informed and suggested students to inform police if they receive any such messages.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Amith Singh called upon students to be vigilant citizens and help police to bring harmony in the society. It is the responsibility of every citizens to inform police about any kind of unlawful activities. Police is prepared to serve citizens at any time. “Be a law abiding citizen and do not resort to any kind of dishonest doings,” Singh advised.

St Aloysius College principal John D’Silva said that mobile phones and internet are two components which leads to an increase in the cyber crime rate. He said that majority of the crimes were committed by educated people.

Still people keep blaming police for the increase in crime rate. Instead of blaming police, we should pass on the message of peace among society, he added.
